Friends Lecture: How close can we get to an ethical foreign policy?
Andrew Sparkes, Winchester Senior Fellow; Div; Global Perspectives, Winchester College

Tuesday, November 19, 2019 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Andrew will draw on his own experiences as a diplomat and Ambassador in conflict-ridden and corrupt countries, and also review the history of British involvement overseas in the thirty six years since he joined the FCO (retiring after thirty two to teach). He will look particularly at where "doing the right thing" and our more hard-nosed national interest coincide. Andrew will also touch on the one foreign policy area where Labour and the Conservatives traditionally differ - the right use of British Aid.
