Charles Sinclair, CBE 

Mr Charles Sinclair was appointed Chairman of Associated British Foods plc in 2009, having joined the Board in 2008. 

He held the position of Chief Executive at the Daily Mail and General Trust plc from 1988 to 2008. He retired as a director of SVG Capital plc in November 2013 and as Chairman of the Spencer Stuart UK Advisory Board in 2012.  Mr Sinclair has previously been a member of the VSO UK Board and the Board of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism (at Oxford University’s Department of Politics and International Relations). He was also for many years, a director of Reuters Group PLC; Schroders plc and Euromoney Institutional Investor plc, and served on their key committees, often as Chairman. 

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

He is also Chairman of the Minack Theatre Trust, Porthcurno, Cornwall, and was appointed as Governor of The Courtauld Institute of Art in 2011. 

Mr Sinclair was Admitted to the Fellowship of Winchester College in October 2010; he is Chairman of the Finance Committee; a  member of the Development Committee and also attends the Investment Committee.  

Mr Sinclair has been elected Warden of the College, with effect from 6th July 2014, on the retirement of Sir David Clementi.

Mr Sinclair, who is married with two sons, both of whom attended Winchester College, was born in Suffolk in 1948 and brought up in Africa and the Middle East. He was educated at Winchester College and Magdalen College, Oxford, and by his students whilst a VSO teacher in Zambia.
