Kingsgate Park: SHAPING THE FUTURE OF SPORT AT WINCHESTER

Winchester is embarking upon probably the most comprehensive development plan since its foundation. As part of the Southern Campus Development, the School's sporting facilities, based at Kingsgate Park, will undergo a significant transformation and improvement over the next couple of years.

 SPORTING TRIUMPHS

KP Photograph Alpinists

At Winchester Match the Headmaster launched the start of the new Sports Centre Project. As part of the celebrations and in recognition of past sporting triumphs, with the knowledge of many more to come, graffiti artist Will Impey created large scale murals of our Gold Medal Olympians. Will worked in collaboration with Junior Part who produced posters of their sporting heroes, which were used as a backdrop to the images and emblazoned accross the exterior walls of the current PE Centre.

CHANGED DAYS
Back in the 1960s when the existing PE Centre was buit, the School was home to 550 boys, with a small selection of football and cricket teams and a handful of additional sports on offer. Today we have 700 boys and a diverse range of more than 30 sports to choose from.

STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITIES
The new sporting facilities will deliver a centre of sporting excellence that:

  • will enable the most talented and driven boys to reach their full potential within the sporting arena, just as they do in the academic field

  • will ensure that everybody can find a sport they enjoy and take it forward to the level that suits them

  • befits a school of Winchester's standing.

THE COST & FUNDRAISING
The total cost of the Sports Centre, including the temporary facilities is £40million. As with all projects of this size, it will be financed by a mixture of borrowing, the School's own funds and fundraising.

Over the last couple of years donors have been approached who might consider giving a lead gift. The philanthropy of the community, knows no bounds, and we have been supported in this effort by a campaign committee, with members based in the UK, USA, and in Hong Kong.

The fundraising target is £25million and the wonderful news is that we have raised £17.5million in income and pledges, over two thirds of the way towards the target.
