Heritage Open Days - John Barclay: Sunday 11 September, 2pm, New Hall
The Invention of Cricket
This year is the 225th anniversary of the first recognised first-class cricket match. The ground where this history-making match took place in 1772 - Broadhalfpenny Down -is owned by the College. In this celebratory year we are delighted that John Barclay will come and talk about the game to which his life has been dedicated. John is a former Sussex county cricket captain and a former president of the MCC. He made his debut for Sussex in 1970 at the age of 16 while still a schoolboy at Eton, retiring in 1986 having scored 9,677 runs. He is currently president of the Sussex County Cricket club and is a well-known speaker and commentator.

Heritage Open Days - Dr Tim Hands, Headmaster: Thursday 15 September, 7pm, New Hall
Winchester College and the invention (twice over) of the British public schoo
In this wide-ranging talk, Dr. Hands will explain Winchester’s importance in the history of the public school. What is it about the school that William (of Wykeham) built that makes it so important in the history of British education? Dr. Hands will explain.

Heritage Open Days - Miles Jenner: Saturday 17 September, 7pm, Michla
Brewing - a Divine Discovery
Beer was brewed at Winchester College from the 1390s until the very early 20th century. Happily, it was a form of light beer, of low alcohol content, safer to drink than water, but this did not stop the occasional pupil protest about the quantity, even the quality of the beer served. Mr Miles Jenner was the Master of the Brewers’ Company from 2015/16 and is the joint managing director and head brewer of the Sussex-based brewery, Harvey's. Join us for an evening when we celebrate the joys of beer, its history and its future.

Nick MacKinnon: Wednesday 21 September, 7pm, New Hall
Winchester College Football
Mr. MacKinnon needs little introduction to Wykehamists past and present. A Mathematics and English Don, a crossword compiler and poet, a Housemaster of Chawkers 1996-2009 and more - so much more - Nick will give us his thoughts on this most Wykehamical of games.

Jessie Childs: Thursday 29 September, 7pm, School
The Siege of Loyalty
We are delighted that Jessie Childs, the award-winning author, broadcaster and historian will be coming to speak to us about her recent book, so highly praised by Simon Schama.
