We are delighted that so many Old Wykehamists and others like to visit the College. However, with effect from 1 January 2024, visitors to Winchester College, whether an Old Wykehamist or not, can only visit the school if escorted. Although this principle will apply, separate arrangements will be made for events hosted in the school and communicated as part of the joining instructions. So, unless you are attending an event for which you are registered; are taking part in a scheduled guided tour; or are being escorted by a member of staff, there will no longer be access to the school grounds and premises.
The point of entry to the College will normally be via the Porters’ Lodge, and for events taking place in New Hall, via Black Gate. It will help our security staff considerably if from now on, however tempting it is to use a short cut through another gate, you abide by these instructions.

TOURS
The school welcomes visitors to its museum, Treasury, and on guided tours, as well as to public events throughout the year, including Heritage Open Days.
Our one hour tours, led by experienced Tour Guides, concentrate on the medieval heart of the school including Chamber Court, Chapel, College Hall, Cloisters and the 17th Century School building. The film, Hidden Winchester, takes in some of the highlights you will see on the tour, as well as revealing hidden spaces not usually seen by the public.

Formal tours can be arranged through the Enterprises Office.
