Renaissance Rivals: how competition between Leonardo, Michelangelo
and Raphael created the High Renaissance.

Charlie Hall, MA (London), is the director of the John Hall Venice Course (est. 1965) that introduces Gap Year students (and a few adults) to the culture of (mostly) Europe, and particularly Italy, in Venice, Florence and Rome. Previously he worked in music publishing and ran an art and furniture restoration company. He has lectured and taught around Europe, also leading tours in Italy.

The talk, Renaissance Rivals: how competition between Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raphael became the fuel that drove the engine of the High Renaissance in Italy, considers how the three artists competed with one another, but also with the past, intending to outperform the ancient world, from whom most Renaissance artists drew inspiration.
