There is a very deep connection between Winchester College and The Royal Green Jackets. Nowhere is this better demonstrated than in Winchester College’s War Cloister, built shortly after the First World War. On the memorial tablets, which carry the names of Wykehamists who died in the two World Wars (513 from WWI and 274 from WWII), there are 118 from former regiments of the Royal Green Jackets and a further 27 from former regiments of the Rifles.
War Cloister was opened on 31 May 1924 and we are celebrating the Centenary of the memorial during this year. On 2 May 2024, the College will host an evening for Old Wykehamist Green Jackets and other former members of the Royal Green Jackets to learn about War Cloister and hear some of the stories of past Wykehamical Green Jackets. Please join us for a short tour and a brief lecture, followed by a drinks reception in Armoury.
