Life as an ambassador and Russian influence in the Balkans and Central Asia
Charles Garrett joined the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in 1987. Most recently, he was British Ambassador to North Macedonia from 2014 to July 2018. He then served as British Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan from 2019 to 2022. His career had previously been divided between Europe with postings in Cyprus and Switzerland, and East Asia with postings in Hong Kong and Taipei.
