The Man Who Designed War Cloister

Sir Herbert Baker was the world-renowned architect who designed Winchester College’s War Cloister between 1916 and 1924.

John Stewart is an award-winning architect, architectural historian and author. He has been writing and lecturing full-time since 2015, and written six books, including the first full biography of Sir Herbert Baker, “Architect to the British Empire” which was published in 2021.

John will bring to life the man who made his name in South Africa and India before being chosen to design Winchester College’s memorial to the fallen of World War One.
