THE INVENTION OF CRICKET
This year is the 225th anniversary of the first recognised first-class cricket match. The ground where this history-making match took place in 1772 - Broadhalfpenny Down - is owned by the College. In this celebratory year we are delighted that John Barclay will come and talk about the game to which his life has been dedicated. John is a former Sussex county cricket captain and a former president of the MCC. He made his debut for Sussex in 1970 at the age of 16 while still a schoolboy at Eton, retiring in 1986 having scored 9,677 runs. He is currently president of the Sussex County Cricket club and is a well-known speaker and commentator.
