Soldier & Biographer Lt. Col. Ewen Southby-Taylor on the greatest commando operation of WWII

OPERATION FRANKTON

Operation Frankton, better known from the film version The Cockleshell Heros (though the raid itself had little in common with the film version). Described by Lord Mountbatten as ‘the finest commando raid of the War’; we are honoured to have Lt. Col. Ewen Southby Tailyour RM tell us why the Cockleshell Raid is considered one of the finest deep-penetration raids of all time, commemorated each year by the Special Boat Service with a December supper. Ewen served with distinction in the Falklands and is the authorised biographer of the expedition’s extraordinary leader ‘Blondie’ Hasler.
