Does your son love to sing? Would he enjoy singing in a famous choir in the city of Winchester?
There is an exciting opportunity for boys, currently in Year 4, to join the Winchester College Chapel Choir as ‘Quiristers’ next September. The Quiristers are boys aged 9 to 13, who sing weekly services in the historic Winchester College Chapel, as well as performing in concerts across the UK. Recent projects have included recording for BBC Radio 3, concerts in Birmingham Symphony Hall, and recording at Abbey Road Studios.
The Quiristers attend The Pilgrims’ School, an independent prep school in Winchester, where they receive a first-class academic education, play competitive sport, and enjoy extensive co-curricular activities at the school. Quiristers are weekly or full boarders and receive a scholarship worth 40 per cent of the fees, as well as free instrumental tuition and vocal training. Additional means-tested bursaries are available.
Auditions for the choir will take place on 21 January 2023, and families are invited to get in touch to register their interest. Informal pre-auditions are also available for boys and their parents, who want to find out more and prepare for the auditions. Contact the Admissions team at The Pilgrims’ School for all the information: admissions@pilgrims-school.co.uk.
Howard Ionascu, Director of Chapel Music commented, ‘This is a wonderful and unique opportunity for any boy who loves to sing. In addition to forming close friendships and having huge amounts of fun, Quiristers are trained to a professional standard, performing in some of the most prestigious venues, both in the UK and overseas.’
