Winchester College Sports Centre Updates |
Over the course of seven days this summer, the project team for the school’s new Sports Centre successfully installed the unique 10 cross-laminated timber folded roof darts which form the new swimming pool roof.
It is one of the largest folded roof structures in Europe and was a significant milestone in the development of the new state-of-the-art indoor sporting facilities.
In the next couple of months, the roof will be completed. The basement space is now ready to start installing the mechanical plant and the walls around the pool area are going up. The pool has now passed the first of the four water tests ensuring it is watertight. This pavilion is technically the most complex.
Now that the structural steel frame is in place, work is now starting on the construction of the internal walls and roof finishes.
The next phase is the casting of the concrete floor and the instalation of the upper floor levels, i.e. the viewing galleries and Cecil Firing Range. Work to the roof will be starting before the end of the year with the installation of the windows and roof lights.
