The archives at Winchester College are an extensive collection of records relating to the history and life of Winchester College from its foundation in 1382 to the present day. The documents are stored in six medieval rooms, situated right at the heart of our ancient buildings.
The archive is available to those interested in our former pupils, our estates and our buildings. We hold records relating to our pupils from the 1390s, records relating to the foundation of the school, court books and court rolls of manors held by Winchester College, registers of leases and title deeds relating to our extensive estates, annual accounts from 1394, schoolboy letters and diaries, and much more.
Please note you will need to be logged into the website to access the archives through the link below.
The school’s Winchester College at War website includes all those that served
in Crimea, South Africa, WWI and WWII.
Our online resource enables you to search the Winchester College Rolls of Honour and War Service Rolls. The site provides a brief biography for every member of the school community who perished in conflicts from the Crimean War onwards.
Treasury is the school’s museum of art and archaeology. Its displays include artefacts from Egypt, Greece and Rome, medieval art and early English silver, and Chinese ceramics from the Tang to Qing dynasties. They are exhibited across four galleries in the medieval Warden’s stables, converted into a museum in 2016.
