By November 1922, individual war memorials had been designed and installed in all 11 houses. Images of each one, published in the
3 November 1922 copy of The Wykehamist can seen below in the gallery.
Details of the designers and artists were described in the same edition as follows:
'our readers will like to know that all except
that at Sunnyside were executed by our Instructor in
Carpentry, Mr. Laverty, who also designed those at
Chernocke House, Southgate Hill, Southgate Corner,
Culverlea, Culver's Close, and Kingsgate House. The
College board was designed by Mr. Caroe*—a new grate
and fireplace are to be provided.
Mr. B. Gotch** was the architect at 69 Kingsgate Street.
Mr. T. D. Atkinson, the College Surveyor, at Culver House and
Southgate House, and Mr. Henry Hill at Sunnyside, where the
design was executed by Thomas & Co. It will be seen
that the Memorial at 69 Kingsgate Street differs from
the others in being a complete War Service Roll.'
* WD Caroe, the celebrated British architect, then a parent of Wykehamists. He had already been engaged to design new panelling and seating for Chapel, would go on to design the altar in Chapel and numerous other commissions around the school.
** Bernard Gotch, better known as a Winchester-based watercolour artist.
