Suzanne Foster, the College Archivist, has received this atmospheric photograph of 'tubbing'. We deduce, from the angle of the shot that it was taken from Tunbridge and, from the shape of the vessel he's afloat in that the seafarer is a Collegeman.
The only contemporary pictures that we have to hand of the more common shape of tub are of the centrepieces in 'Japan Court' in Chawker's.
Cameras and tubs might not be ideal companions, but if anyone has (decent) imagery of tubs or the activity of tubbing, please would they share it with Suzanne Foster, she will be delighted to hear from you.
