Since its founding in 2004, the Albert Gordon Sports Fund has been a driving force behind sporting excellence at Winchester. Inspired by Albert H. Gordon’s vision and sustained by the Gordon family and a dedicated group of OW sportsmen, the Fund has helped transform sport at the school. Albert Gordon believed in the power of sport to shape character, build resilience, and foster lifelong friendships.
Today the committee is made up of members of the Gordon Family, OW Sportsmen and former Gordon Junior Fellows. Co-Chairs John Gordon (E, 1966-67) and Dan Gordon (E, 1968-69) and committee members: David Clementi (E, 1962-67), Alan Lovell (B, 1967-72), Roland Stephen (K, 1971-75), Tom Clementi (K, 1992-97), Patrick Gordon (E, 2004-05), Nathaniel Allen (CoRo, 2007-09) and Amanda Talboys (CoRo, 2011-14)
Thanks to the Fund, Winchester has seen remarkable developments across its sports programme:
Most recently, it enabled the hiring of a fast bowling coach, transforming the 1st XI’s opening attack.
So far we've raised £18,138.00 of our £50,000.00.
Whether you’re an OW or a parent, and believe in nurturing Scholar Athletes, your support, at any level, can make a lasting difference to the next generation of Wykehamists.
With £12,500 already secured, your support can help us go even further. Join us in celebrating the power of sport at Winchester.
Albert H. Gordon was a visionary American businessman who revitalized Kidder Peabody following the 1929 crash. Convinced that Winchester was the finest school in the world, he sent his sons John (E, 1966–67) and Dan (E, 1968–69) there. A lifelong advocate of fitness, he led by example, running the London Marathon in his 80s, and lived with vitality and purpose until the remarkable age of 107.
