There are currently 10 pupils in Beloe's who are only here thanks to the generosity of those who came before them. For centuries, philanthropy has ensured that talented pupils, regardless of their financial background, can benefit from a Winchester education. This year alone, the school is providing over £300,000 in bursary support for these Beloeites. With your help, we can ensure that future Beloeites have the same opportunities that you once did.
Nicholas Monsarrat 1923-28
A British novelist known for his sea stories. He intended to practice law but law failed to inspire him and so he took up writing. Despite being a pacifist he served in WWII in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve. This suited him as he had a lifelong love of sailing. After a short stint in the diplomatic service after the war he became a fulltime writer. He wrote 28 novels and other books, including: A Cruel Sea 1951 and The Tribe That Lost Its Head 1956.
