There are currently 12 pupils in Toye's who are only here thanks to the generosity of those who came before them. For centuries, philanthropy has ensured that talented pupils, regardless of their financial background, can benefit from a Winchester education. This year alone, the school is providing over £300,000 in bursary support for these Toyeites. With your help, we can ensure that future Toyeites have the same opportunities that you once did.
Roger Tredgold 1924-29
He trained as a doctor at University College Hospital, London, and became a psychiatrist. He served with the Royal Army Medical Corp as advisor in psychiatry. He was a founder member of the International Committee of Occupational Mental Health. He was six times amateur sabre champion between 1937-49 and reached the final in every major fencing competition from 1930-64. He also competed in the Men’s team sabre at the 1936 and 1952 Olympic games, and in the Men’s foil team in 1936.
