In the run-up to the War Cloister Centenary in 2024 we have embarked on an extensive conservation project. Over its 100-year history, it has aged well but the paintwork inscribing the letters (the coats of arms especially) had not fared well. Specialist conservationists have spent the last 12 months painstakingly restoring over 700 names of Old Wykehamists remembered on the rolls of honour, cleaning the salt-damaged stonework, and regilding the coats of arms and other decorative elements. War Cloister is now looking incredibly smart in time for the centenary commemoration on the 15 June.
None of this would have been possible without the generosity of many donors who have so kindly and generously supported this project. We have now raised just over the £1 million target. Any further donations will go towards the ongoing maintenance of this incredibly important building and monument. Thank you so much to everyone who has so kindly supported this project.
