In this, our last archive story of Common Time and on the day before OTH v Commoner VIs is played on Meads, we bring you our final piece of the season on Win Co Fo history.
In 2022 Winchester College acquired at auction an ancient football. Described by the auction house as a soccer ball (at the time one might have called it Association Football) it was obvious to anyone at the College that it is a piece of Winchester Football memorabilia. Inscribed on the ball in gold lettering is:
WINCHESTER COLLEGE
TUTORS HOUSES FOOTBALL SIX
1870
S. T. H. BURNE T. SNOW
R. J. MAUDE A.A. RAWLINSON
E. J. HUMPHREY F. W. JOY
In this short film, Suzanne Foster, the College Archivist, (who arranged for the College to acquire the football) discusses its acquisition and the history surrounding it with Christopher Normand.
