Winchester has one of the most generous bursary programmes in the country with nearly 20% of the pupils receiving financial support. This means that we can look for those who have the intellectual spark and curiosity to take advantage of everything the school has to offer, irrespective of socio-economic background.
In 2024/25 academic year we will have 139 bursary award holders, costing the school nearly £5 million. This would not be possible without the considerable generosity of the Wykehamical Community.
In September 2021 the Wykeham Award was launched, a dedicated means-tested bursary for Sixth Form pupils who are currently studying at a UK state secondary school. It can cover up to 100% of the fees, as well as associated expenses. This academic year 26 pupils in VI Book will receive a Wykeham Award costing nearly £1 million.
You can find more about the Wykeham Award here.
Amara and Ethan are two recent Wykeham Award holders and in the film below, they talk about what opportunities coming to Winchester has given them.
The Warden Sinclair Fund was set up in honour of former Warden Charles Sinclair (B,1961-66) and his distinguished service to the school. The fund enables bursary holders to enjoy the full extra-curricular experience of Winchester. It has paid for educational trips, sports kit, travel to interviews, exam fees and additional music lessons.
